This is a 7-minute episode of the ‘Deep Dive Podcast’ exploring the power of reframing and appreciating the value of ‘laziness.’:
Our brains are actually energy hogs. Even though the brain is only about 2% of our body weight, it uses around 20% of our resting energy.
Because of that, evolution shaped us to be efficient — which often looks like laziness. We default to habits, shortcuts, and minimal effort unless something pushes us to expend more.
Why It’s So Hard to Heal — Even for 5 Minutes (And How to Start Anyway)
Have you ever wanted to feel better — but found yourself avoiding the very things that could help?
Even if it would only take five minutes?
Even if it was simple?
You’re not alone. And you’re not broken.
Your brain is wired to save energy.
Healing takes a little bit of focus. It asks you to be curious, to look at uncomfortable feelings, to do something new.
Even if it’s a tiny effort, your mind tries to “protect” you by resisting.
It whispers things like:
- “I’ll do it later.”
- “It won’t work anyway.”
- “I’m too tired.”
This is completely normal. It’s not laziness, it’s biology.
So How Can You Actually Start?
Here’s the secret:
Don’t try to force a big change. Just invite a tiny shift.
Instead of “healing your whole emotional life,” just say:
“Let me feel 1% different right now.”
Instead of “fixing” yourself, just be curious:
“What happens if I notice one feeling shift for a few seconds?”
Healing doesn’t have to be heroic.
It can be playful.
It can start with just 20 seconds of noticing.
What You’ll Find Here
On this blog, I’ll be sharing tools, experiments, and ways to explore emotional healing — gently, quickly, and with as little resistance as possible.
You’ll never be asked to “force” change.
You’ll be invited to play, notice, and allow tiny shifts to grow over time.
Your healing journey can be light. It can be fun. It can feel natural.
It starts with just one moment of curiosity. If you’re curious, you’re already healing. Have you ever heard of “FreeSpotting”? https://clintmatheny.com/freespotting-revision-1/
